One of the biggest advantages of synthetic grass is that it needs very little maintenance. But 'very little' doesn't mean 'none'. With a few simple, regular steps, your grass maintains its perfect appearance for longer and the investment pays off better.
Basic cleaning: frequency and method
- Weekly: sweep with a soft-bristle brush to remove leaves and debris
- Monthly: rinse with plain water to remove dust and refresh the fibres
- After intensive use: sweep and gently brush up the fibres to keep them upright
How to clean stains and specific dirt
Most stains are removed with water and a little neutral detergent. For more stubborn dirt, a mixture of warm water and white vinegar can be used. Always avoid products containing chlorine, solvents or acids, which can degrade the fibres.
Special care with pets
If you have pets, rinse with water more frequently — ideally after each use. For persistent odours, there are enzyme-based products specifically designed for synthetic grass that neutralise urine compounds without damaging the fibres.
Brushing up fibres: maintaining volume
With use, grass fibres tend to become compressed in high-traffic areas. A gentle brushing with a stiff-bristle brush (brushing against the direction of fibre growth) restores volume and the natural appearance.
What you should never do
- Use open fires, barbecues or braziers directly on the grass
- Drag heavy furniture without protection
- Use chlorine or solvent-based products for cleaning
- Allow wet leaves to accumulate for long periods
- Use wire brushes or abrasive tools
Annual check: what to look for
Once a year, check the edges and joins to make sure they are secure. If you notice ripples or areas that are lifting, contact your installer — most problems are easy to fix if caught early.
